Acupuncture

“There is evidence that acupuncture influences the production and distribution of a great many neurotransmitters and neuromodulators, and that this in turn alters the perception of pain."- David Eisenberg, M.D., Clinical Research Fellow at Harvard Medical School

What is Acupuncture:

A system of medicine that originated in China over 2000 years ago.  Tiny needles are inserted at specific points in the body that affects a wide range of nerve points. These nerves sends signals to the brain, and the brain releases neural hormones that reduces pain and decreases the pro-inflammatory markers — including TNF and IL-1β — which decreases inflammation and reduces pain. Acupuncture may also stimulate the brain to secrete some nerve growth factor, and help the nerve to regenerate,

When is it used:

  • Arthritis

  • Chronic back pain

  • Back leg weakness in older dogs and cats.

  • Anxiety and Stress

How is it done:

For most cases we recommend once week for 4 weeks and then once a month then every 2 weeks. A session usually last for 15-29 minutes. We offer packages for 8 session at a reasonable price. Please call the office.

with acupuncture, especially in dogs paralyzed (common dachshunds) from intervertebral disk diseases. In December of 2009, 6 dogs with posterior paresis (back leg paralysis) were treated in our hospital in Seattle, and 5 of them recovered!
